Aluminum Casework
Objective:
Create a parametric casework system using aluminum extrusions that will allow mill-work shops to compete with metal cabinetry. All cabinet styles were designed and prototyped including wall mounted, floor mounted, and tall cabinets. The system was also designed and prototyped with doors, draws, and tambour doors.
The system uses a 32mm standard and employs the same methodology for mobile, built-in, and stand-alone cabinetry. The entire system can be made with a panel saw and chop saw.
We designed and engineered the product, had 12 unique aluminum extrusions produced, and manufactured several prototypes and sample cases. Along with the aluminum product, we also developed and manufactured steel clones for testing and comparison. The aluminum versions outperformed the steel versions in every metric including cost.
In addition to the above, we received both a design and utility patent for the invention.
